The American Library Association (ALA) recently met with FCC officials to discuss public libraries need for greater broadband. The ALA research shows that a little over half of public libraries report that they have filed an individual application and believe the E-rate application process is a major hurdle in public libraries filing for E-rate support to help with their connectivity needs.
Here are a few of ALA’s goals for public library connectivity.
- Every public library has at least one dedicated T1 connection
- Libraries should form consortia to aggregate their purchasing power
- Public libraries need technical and planning assistance
