FCC Office of Inspector General Continues to be Concerned about Waste, Fraud and Abuse

The FCC Office of Inspector General (OIG) released its Semi-annual Report to Congress which covers October 1, 2005 through March 31, 2006. The OIG’s office continues to be concerned with waste, fraud and abuse within the E-rate program and continues to request more resources to conduct more audits. In fact, the FCC’s FY 2007 Budget submission includes requests for 12 new full-time OIG employees and up to $20,480,000 to be used from the Universal Service Fund to cover audit related activities. The OIG’s office is currently working with and providing support to USAC, Department of Education, Department of Justice and other federal agencies to help ensure that the E-rate program beneficiaries stay in compliance with E-rate rules and regulations.

The Semi-annual Report includes a list of beneficiaries that are currently being targeted. The full report can be viewed at FCC's Office of Inspector General Semi-annual Report.pdf
