The Schools and Libraries Division announced that it will release another wave of funding commitments for Funding Year 2002 on May 7 and kept the door open for internal connections requests from applicants with discount rates of 80 percent or higher.
In approving another $108 million worth of funding commitments for telecommunications services and Internet access, the SLD also said it would notify applicants with discount rates of below 80 percent that they would not be able to qualify for internal connections support. It said "uncertainty exists at this time" about requests from applicants with discount rates ranging between 80 and 89 percent. It also said it was not yet clear whether it would have enough money to fully fund the internal connections requests of applicants at the 90 percent discount rate. Among the issues currently under consideration by the Federal Communications Commission is whether to roll over undisbursed funds from earlier years to make more funding available in Funding Year 2002.
