The Schools and Libraries Division issued 347 E-rate funding commitment letters Aug. 18 totaling nearly $97.7 million worth of commitments after skipping last week to take a second look at its numbers.
That brings the total committed so far for Year 3 to more than $1.5 billion, or about two-thirds of the maximum amount it could commit for the funding year that began July 1, 2000. The average commitment in this week's wave was for about $261,000.
There was no change in the threshold for approved internal connections. The SLD has approved discounts for applicants with discount rates of 83 percent or higher. That number could drop to as low as 81 percent by the time the SLD's application review is finished. The SLD said it expects to issue "several more waves" in the weeks ahead.
