The Schools and Libraries Corporation mailed out another 1,163 more Funding Commitment Decisions Letters on Dec. 21, distributing another $25 million in E-rate discounts for telecommunications services, Internet access and internal connections for applicants with 90 percent discount rates.
Since the SLC began issuing funding commitments last month, it has allocated about $174 million of the $1.9 billion that is available for schools and libraries for the 1998 funding year.
SLC officials said that the next wave is currently scheduled to be distributed on Dec. 30. It will include responses for some applicants at discount rates of below 50 percent because the SLC has calculated that it will not be able to fund internal connections support for applicants with discount rates below that level.
