On August 21, 2012, the Federal Communications Commission released the Eighth Broadband Progress Report. In the report, the FCC acknowledges that the limited data available on elementary and secondary school connectivity stems from a 2010 FCC Broadband Study, stating that “‚Ķalthough we do not have precise or comprehensive data regarding the availability of broadband to elementary and secondary schools and classrooms it continues to appear that many schools and classrooms are underserved by broadband today‚Ķ”
The FCC is requesting comments from the K-12 community on how the Commission can “evaluate the adequacy of broadband connectivity for schools and libraries” via the Ninth Broadband Progress Notice of Inquiry. Comments to the NOI are due on September 20, 2012, and reply comments will be due October 22, 2012.
