In June 2012, Funds For Learning conducted a survey of E-rate applicants, asking them to share their opinions about their E-rate priorities in the face of rising demand. In a time when technology needs are increasing while budgets continue to shrink, the overwhelming response to the survey highlights the importance of the continued success of the E-rate to applicants across the country.

A total of 636 applicants responded to the survey. In addition to their survey responses, 434 respondents provided information about their entity to be used for the collection of statistical data. Highlights from the statistical analysis include:
Totals
Based on Funding Year 2012 E-rate funding request data, the 434 applicant entities included in the statistical analysis served a total of 3.87 million students. Respondents ranged in size from individual school sites (17% of responses) with as few as 17 students, to school districts (78% of responses), some having over 100,000 students. Five percent of the respondents were identified as consortia.
Of the entities included in the statistical analysis, 38% had received Priority 2 funding commitments within the past three E-rate funding years. Eight percent of the respondents used a consultant for their Funding Year 2012 applications.
