The American Library Association (ALA) recently met with FCC officials to discuss several “observations and recommendations” related to USAC’s Fall E-rate applicant trainings. The ALA proposed the following set up recommendations for the FCC and USAC to consider:
- Have two program tracks at the trainings; one for beginners and one for E-rate veterans;
- Select easily accessible locations;
- Hold more workshops;
- Have workshop materials released 2-4 days ahead of the training
- Don’t change the location once announced
I appreciate the ALA making these important recommendations to the FCC and USAC and agree that “E-rate workshops are a critical part of helping ensure a successful E-rate application process. They educate new participants on program basics; they provide valuable refresher training for returning participants; and they inform all attendees of changes for the upcoming funding year.”
