On February 12, 2021, U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker (R – MS) and John Thune (R- SD) sent a letter to Acting Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel “raising concerns about the Universal Service Fund’s (USF) long-term sustainability as a mechanism to close the nation’s digital divide.” In the letter the Senators request that the Commission provide answers to a variety of questions, including the potential costs of broadband services to support remote learning, to what extend the FCC is working with the Department of Education and other government agencies, and proposed rules regarding waste, fraud, and abuse.
