On October 12, 2023, the Federal Communications Commission announced the agenda for their October 19 open meeting. Among items on the agenda for consideration by the Commission is a declaratory ruling that “that would clarify that the use of Wi-Fi on school buses is an educational purpose” and is therefore eligible for E-rate funding. First announced in May 2022, the effort to include bus Wi-Fi in the program’s Eligible Services List is part of FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel’s “Learn Without Limits” initiative, which includes later phases considering library hotspot lending and a $200 million cybersecurity pilot program.
