Get To Know Your Guides: Patrick Burke

Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got started in the E-rate industry?

My background includes skills like strong communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail, all of which I honed through years of customer support and working in the banking industry. I’ve always enjoyed helping clients navigate complex processes, and when I discovered the E-rate program, I saw a chance to apply those skills to make a real difference.

What drew you to work at Funds for Learning?

Funds for Learning is an amazing place because it’s not just about business—it’s about helping schools and libraries get the internet they need to give students the best education possible.

How long have you been working in the E-rate industry, and what have you learned over this time?

I’ve been working in E-rate for over three years now, and I’ve learned that it takes a lot of patience and attention to detail. The process can be complicated, but the reward of helping schools and libraries get what they need makes it worth it.

What is your current role, and what are your primary responsibilities?

I’m a Compliance Analyst, and I’m also CEMP Certified, which means I specialize in managing the E-rate program to ensure everything is in line with compliance. I guide schools and libraries through the entire E-rate process, from applying for funding to making sure they receive their disbursements. My main goal is to help my clients by saving them time and to reduce their stress.

What do you find most interesting about working in the E-rate industry?

What I find most interesting is how much of a difference good internet can make in a school. It’s exciting to see how a faster, more reliable connection can open so many opportunities for students. It’s also cool to be part of something that helps so many people.

What do you enjoy most about working in a Guide team?

I love working with a Guide team because we all share the same goal—helping schools and libraries succeed! Everyone brings different ideas and skills to the table, and it’s great knowing that together, we can tackle any challenge that comes our way. Plus, it’s just fun to work with people who care as much as I do about making a difference.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the E-rate industry?

My advice is to be patient and really get to know the rules of E-rate. It might seem complicated at first, but once you understand it, you’ll see how much of an impact you can make.

What is your top tip for E-rate applicants?

My top tip is to stay organized! Keeping track of deadlines and details is so important. That way, you can be sure you’re getting all the funding you’re eligible for.
