The Schools and Libraries Division announced April 8 that more than 32,000 Form 471 applications were filed during the filing window for the 1999-2000 filing year.
The number represented about 2,000 more applications than were filed in the first funding year. This year's filing window lasted 127 days, compared with 75 last year, before it closed on April 6.
The SLD must soon give the Federal Communications Commission a projection of the level of demand represented by the applications to aid the FCC in setting the funding cap for the 1999-2000 filing year. If the FCC decided to retain the current rate, that means $1.3 billion would be available for the 12 months that end June 30, 2000.
