The Schools and Libraries Division October 18 announced it had approved another $11.3 million in funding commitments for the 2002 funding year, a slight increase to the nearly $1.4 billion in funding commitments that had previously been approved.
There was no further news on the fate of internal connections requests from applicants qualifying for a discount rate of 89 to 80 percent. However, the SLD’s Program Integrity Assurance staff has now begun reviewing funding requests at that level.
The SLD is prepared to commit as much as $2.7 billion this year, recognizing that applicants have historically failed to make use of all of the funding that was approved for them.
