A Schools and Libraries Division spokesman said January 6 that the SLD is still considering funding requests for internal connections from applicants with discount rates of 70 percent and above.
On December 10, the Schools and Libraries Committee of the Universal Service Administrative Company authorized the SLD to begin rejecting internal connections requests from applicants eligible for discount rates ranging from 70 to 79 percent, a decision that Funds For Learning reported at the time. However, that authorization was contingent on approval by the Federal Communications Commission. The FCC subsequently authorized the SLD to use undisbursed funds from previous funding years to fill funding requests for 2003. With that additional infusion of $420 million, the SLD is now continuing to consider internal connections requests from applicants qualifying for discount rates as low as 70 percent.
