Funds For Learning CEO John Harrington has been invited to attend the New York Times’ Schools For Tomorrow conference on September 13, 2012 in New York City. The by-invitation-only conference, themed Building A Better Teacher, is designed to bring together “teaching, government, philanthropy and the investment community” to discuss strategies for maximizing teachers’ skills.
The conference, now in its second year, will focus on important questions surrounding teacher achievement:
- Today, teachers are expected to be mentors and social workers as well as educators. Sometimes even substitute parents. How do we educate teachers differently to reflect this? Do they need to teach differently in light of these expectations? As teacher enrollment declines, how do we attract the best teachers from college (or earlier) through training and ongoing professional development? What are the best ways to evaluate and enhance teachers' skills?
The conference will be streamed live on the web at http://www.nytschoolsfortomorrow.com/.
