On January 18, 2017, the FCC released a progress report of the E-rate Modernization Order that was adopted in 2014. The report concludes that "…Though many reforms have only been fully implemented for one funding year, available data already demonstrates progress toward the Commission’s goals of expanding support for Wi‚ÄêFi, connecting all schools to fiber, and ensuring financial stability…”
The report specifically highlights three policy areas:
- Expanding E‚Äêrate support for the equipment and services needed to deliver high speed Wi‚ÄêFi to classrooms and libraries;
- Connecting all schools and libraries to high‚Äêspeed broadband services;
- Ensuring the financial stability of the E‚Äêrate program.
