On August 3, 2022, the State E-rate Coordinators’ Alliance (SECA) submitted an ex parte filing to the Federal Communications Commission posing a series of questions related to the Commission’s proposal to make school bus Wi-Fi service eligible for E-rate discounts. SECA’s questions include Category One vs. Category Two designations, the scope of eligible equipment, the possibility of cost caps, and compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act. Notably, SECA requests that the FCC delay the eligibility of school bus Wi-Fi until Funding Year 2024 to address “implementation questions in a comprehensive and cohesive manner.”
