On December 21, 2023, the Federal Communications Commission issued an Order extending the deadline for comments to the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking proposing adding Wi-Fi hotspots as E-rate eligible services to January 16, 2024. Responding to a request filed by the Schools, Health and Libraries Broadband Coalition (SHLB) and the State E-rate Coordinators’ Alliance (SECA), the FCC noted that there was an “overlap of the original comment period with…schools’ winter holidays” and stressed “the importance of developing a robust public record for this proceeding.”
