As funding year 2025 is upon us, it’s important to look back on FY2024. Why? While many applicants have committed funding, some requests are still pending. Let’s break it down.
FY2024 Combined Totals
For FY 2024, The E-rate program provided over $3.2 billion in funding for more than 54K individual requests. Below, you can see the breakdown of awarded funds, with a little less than 50% of funding still pending.
Of the total $3.2 billion, $1.6 billion has been committed to clients, and $1.4 billion is still currently pending. As of this writing, only $9M has been disbursed to clients, and $226K has been rejected.
FY2024 Category 1 and Category 2
Let’s take it one step further. What does the distribution look like for Category 1 and 2 requests? First things, first, let’s define both.
Category 1, simply put, is the internet and services that help bring the internet in from the service provider. FY 2024 Category 1 requests have an outstanding balance of more than $284M.
Category 2 funding includes all the internal components and managed systems that help extend that internet throughout a particular client, from a single building to an entire state-wide network. While Category 2, in contrast to Category 1, has quite the sum yet to be paid out to clients, $56M.
