We are excited to release the 2024 E-rate Trends Report, offering key insights into how E-rate funding supports schools and libraries across the United States. This report, built on data and survey responses from more than 2,300 participants, highlights both the program’s successes and opportunities for improvement.
Key Insights from the 2024 Report
- E-rate’s Essential Impact
The report underscores E-rate’s critical role in providing equitable access to high-speed internet and other technology, particularly benefiting rural and underserved communities. Respondents overwhelmingly agree that the program helps bridge the digital divide, enabling students and library patrons to thrive in a connected world. - Cybersecurity as a Top Priority
With the FCC’s $200 million Cybersecurity Pilot Program launching in 2024, survey participants expressed strong support for cybersecurity funding. Many respondents advocated for expanding E-rate eligibility to cover cybersecurity services, reflecting the pressing need to protect educational networks. - Rising Costs and Expanding Needs
A common concern among respondents was the rising cost of eligible services. Participants also emphasized the importance of expanding the list of E-rate-supported goods to meet modern educational demands, including funding for off-campus hotspots and school bus Wi-Fi. - Streamlining the E-rate Process
While E-rate’s benefits are widely recognized, feedback suggests the need for a more user-friendly application process. Enhancements to the E-rate Productivity Center (EPC) portal and clearer communication from USAC were frequently mentioned as areas for improvement.
Looking Ahead
This year’s report captures the voices of a diverse range of E-rate participants, providing a roadmap for how the program can evolve to meet emerging challenges. The feedback underscores the need to innovate by expanding services and simplifying processes, ensuring that E-rate continues to support educational institutions effectively.
