On October 4, 2024, Funds For Learning (FFL) met with staff from the Wireline Competition Bureau to discuss the proposed Eligible Services List (ESL) for the E-rate program’s fiscal year 2025.
During this meeting, FFL highlighted the need for the list to explicitly include domain name system (DNS) and dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) services. These services are vital for maintaining secure and efficient networks in schools and libraries.
In addition to supporting the inclusion of DNS and DHCP, FFL expressed strong approval for the proposed addition of advanced firewalls under Category 2 funding. This step aligns with the increasing need for robust cybersecurity measures within educational environments. FFL’s recommendations reflect its ongoing commitment to ensuring that E-rate funding remains relevant and responsive to the evolving needs of schools and libraries.
