Last week, I had the humbling opportunity to speak with a group of principals from Great Expectations Model Schools. I found myself in awe of these leaders—true heroes who take on the daily challenges of managing staff, educating hundreds of students, feeding them, and ensuring their safety. While I serve as the Chair of the Board, I was reminded of how much I continually learn from these leaders.
Our conversation touched on a topic that’s on many leaders’ minds these days—A.I. and the rapid changes it brings to our world. We explored how A.I. is reshaping educational landscapes—from personalized learning experiences to data-driven decision-making—and the importance of leaders staying ahead of these advancements. I shared that while Great Expectations is evolving to meet these new realities, the core principles of leadership remain steady. As tools and methods shift, our values guide us through, giving us stability and purpose in a world of rapid transformation.
I reminded them of the profound influence they have. Paraphrasing Lee Iacocca, I said, “Speed of the leader, speed of the team,” and added, “Tone of the leader, tone of the team.” As principals, they set the tone, direction, and speed for their schools. Their leadership shapes the culture within their buildings, inspiring staff and students alike.
Just as principals set the tone for their schools, entrepreneurs shape the culture and pace of their organizations. Leadership, regardless of the field, is about inspiring others toward a shared vision.
Looking ahead, I’m convinced that the best days for education are still to come. These principals have proven they can rise to new challenges, strengthen their teams, and continue shaping lives for the better. I encourage all leaders to embrace these challenges, uphold their values, and continue making a profound difference.
Here’s to the leaders who make a difference every day.
