Reliable internet access is essential for student success. Across the nation, educational leaders and policymakers continue to rely on the E-rate program to help schools secure affordable broadband.
Funds For Learning’s analysis of 2024 E-rate funding requests shows that the national median cost of internet access for schools has dropped to $0.92 per Mbps. This marks another year of steady, significant progress in broadband affordability—proof that E-rate is delivering on its promise.

To put this in perspective, earlier research from ConnectK12 showed much higher broadband costs just a few years ago. The trend is clear: schools are getting more bandwidth for less, and the E-rate program is a driving force behind that success.
Our latest figures also show:

As the conversation around connectivity continues, Funds For Learning remains committed to providing data-driven insights to inform sound policy.
Looking ahead:
- The 2025 E-rate Trends Report will highlight key metrics on affordability and access.
- On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, we will launch our annual E-rate survey, inviting applicants nationwide to share their experiences and shape the future of the program.
The E-rate program is working. And with continued advocacy, it can do even more.
